"An organizational culture that shuns openness and accountability is often a major cause when institutions fail children" Lawyer Susan Fraser

Position Statement on Child-Welfare Services

It is our position that child welfare authorities are necessary to protect children who are being abused or seriously neglected and that these authorities require strong, proactive, responsive, transparent, and accountable oversight mechanisms to ensure that the best interests of the child are being met.
DONATIONS / SUPPORT
As you may already be aware, many non-profit organizations allocate approximately 50% of their annual budgets to pay for staff salaries. To date, our staff positions are strictly volunteer which enables us to ensure that your greatly appreciated donations are being used most efficiently toward achieving our Mission. If you are interested in seeing where your donations go, you can do so by visiting the agenda pages here.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
There are various ways you can help us to achieve our Mission through both financial and non-financial means as described below.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT - DONATIONS
One way to support the work we are engaged in is to provide us with financial support in the form of monetary donations.

Charitable Status (Not a Registered Charity):
Our board of directors has chosen not to register the Foster Care Council of Canada as a 'Registered Charity' since doing so would have the following negative effects on our work:
  • restricting the quality and quantity of our advocacy efforts
  • valuable and limited volunteer time and resources redirected from advocacy to federal reporting requirements and related expenses
Consequence of Non-Charity Status:
Our choice to refrain from becoming a 'Registered Charity' subsequently prevents us from being able to issue tax-receipts to those persons or corporations who wish to make donations, however it is our hope that those who support our work through donations will do so with the intention of assisting us despite your inability to gain a tax-benefit.

DONATIONS:
If you are still interested in supporting our work through a monetary donation, you will be doing so knowing fully that we can only issue a regular receipt, not a tax receipt because we are not a 'Registered Charity'. We welcome your support and thank you in advance. You donate by making your cheque or money order payable to the 'Foster Care Council of Canada' and mailing it to the following address.
